Sleigh Rides

Borges Family Sleigh Rides

Experience an old fashioned sleigh ride in one of several antique European Sleighs. Be sure to bring your camera, a Borges storyteller will snap a photo of you and your companions on the sleigh with breathtaking views of Lake Tahoe in the background. Sleigh Rides are from 10:00am to Sunset (about 4:45). Each sleigh is equipped with warm blankets for snuggling. Sleigh rides cost $20.00 per adult and $10.00 per child under 11 years old.

Dog Sledding

Husky Express

Have you ever wanted to ride on a sled sliding over snow behind a team of eager huskies? Join 30-year veteran musher Dotty Dennis and her dogs for an exciting and memorable winter adventure. The five-mile rides last about an hour - depending on how fast the track is. We have sleds available with a load limit of 375 pounds each which is approximately two adult size people and one or two small children. Daily by reservation only. $100 for adults and children over 60 pounds and $50 for children under 60 pounds with a minimum charge per sled of $185.00, under 3 years old - free. Box trail lunch can be provided with advance notice for only $10.

Running Creek Sled Dogs

Dog sled rides that tour the meadow at Kirkwood Mountain Resort. Prices are $45.00 per child (under 60lbs.) and $85.00 for adults (toddlers 2 and under and infants ride free with a paid adult). Running two teams of purebred Siberian Huskies, each ride runs between 35 and 40 minutes. We can accommodate infants, elderly and the physically challenged. Please make reservations at least 24 hours in advance. First ride available is at 8:00am and the last ride is at 11:00am. Bring your cameras/ video cameras and we will stop and take pictures for you.

Sierra Sled Dog Adventures

Sit back in a comfortable sled while an experienced musher guides a team of strong, friendly huskies through pristine forests and meadows of the Sierra Nevada mountains. Glide through the backcountry of Tahoe National Forest under blue skies of mid-day or take the full moon tour and experience the forest floor in the soft, ethereal glow of moon light. Depending upon the package, backcountry dog sled tours run between 45 minutes and 2 hours. Rates: 4 mile tour $60, 7 mile tour $100, 18 mile tour $240. Exact departure sites vary upon tour but are typically north of Truckee.

Ice Skating

Olympic Ice Pavillion

This 100' x 200' Ice Rink overlooks the Lake and is located at High Camp at Squaw Valley. The rink hours are from 11:00am to 9:00pm. The rink is also available for private ice skating lessons, broomball and private rink closures. Cancellations within 48 hours of rink closure must pay 100% of the contracted price.

Resort at Squaw Creek

Experience outdoor ice skating at this all-natural, beautiful rink. Can be reserved for large groups and parties and is open daily from 10:00am to 10:00pm weather permitting.

South Tahoe Ice Arena

The South Tahoe Ice Arena is a full service state of the art ice skating facility. This facility consists of a regulation NHL size sheet of ice, locker rooms, snack bar, retail store, arcade and party rooms. This public facility offers ice skating and hockey lessons as well as public skate sessions. And what a better place to hold your child's birthday party.

Village Ice Rink at Kirkwood

Take in breathtaking views while gliding across Kirkwood's 6000' Village Ice Rink. The outdoor rink is open throughout the winter, weather permitting, Friday-Sunday 10:00am to 5:00pm, and 6:00pm on Saturdays and Holidays. Adults pay $6 for a two hour session, or $9 with skate rentals. Children are $6 (price includes skate rental if needed). Please add $3 during holiday periods.

Village at Northstar year-round Ice Skating Rink

Located at the heart of the Village at Northstar, the ice rink is the place to gather with outdoor fire pits, a s’mores kiosk, boutiques and restaurants surrounding it on all sides. Perfect for an après ski outing, the 9,000 square foot rink is open days and evenings and will also offer entertainment on select dates throughout the season. The ice-skating rink provides entertainment and activity value for the Northstar Resort guest. In summer months, it transforms into a roller-skating rink, and can be matted up for events such as wine tastings, farmer’s markets, and art shows in the Village.

Lake Tahoe Snowmobiles

Lake Tahoe Snowmobile Tours has been expertly guiding tours since 1985, and is North Lake Tahoe's premier snowmobiling operation. Eagle Ridge Snowmobile Outfitters

High Sierra Snowmobiling

During the winter months be sure to come visit our snowmobile track and rentals. This is a great fun-filled idea for family groups as everyone can take a turn on the smooth snowmobile track with beautiful views of Lake Tahoe while you ride! Rentals are available by the 1/2 hour and cost $50.00. No reservations are required, as we operate on a first come, first serve basis.

Tahoe Snowmobiles

For those with the proper towing vehicle, the snowmobiles and trailers are included in your rental. This gives you the freedom to ride at any of the designated snowmobile area. Easy ride-on/ride-off trailers are included with multiple snowmobile rentals, along with safety tips, riding instruction and a map.

Snowmobiling Areas

Blackwood Canyon Area

Take Hwy. 89 south of Tahoe City approximately 4 miles to Sno-Park fee parking on right at Kaspian Point. Ride west up level road approximately 2.5 miles, left across bridge over creek up Barker Pass Road to large open areas, some steep bowls, and many roads. Riding level: intermediate to advanced.

Area of Fiberboard Freeway and Mount Watson

Limited parking and access via A trail at Tahoe City Golf Course off of Fairway Drive. Inquire at golf course. Limited parking behind Agate Bay subdivision and other points in Carnelian Bay area. Good access at top of Hwy. 267 - ride west on "Fiberboard Freeway" (groomed road), to Tahoe City, Truckee, Northstar-at-Tahoe, Mt. Watson and more. Easy to ride 50+ miles per day in this area. Limited parking, good access at end of Regency Way off Hwy.267. Go up from Regency Way about a mile to "Fiberboard Freeway." Riding levels: beginner, intermediate, and some advanced. There are many old lumber roads in this area.

Martis Peak Area

Best access and limited parking about one quarter mile north of the Brockway Summer below top of Hwy. 267 on the Truckee side of the summit. Other possible accesses are on the Tahoe side of this summit. No groomed trails there, but many old lumber roads exist. A rider can go from Hwy. 267 clear over to Glenshire area in Truckee,. or to the foothills of Mt. Rose area. Riding level: intermediate and advanced. Take a good Tahoe map as it's easy to get lost out there. Some fantastic lake views.

Area North of Truckee

Drive up Hwy. 89 heading for Quincy. Various launching sites are along the road at Prosser Lake, Hobart Mills, etc. A large Sno-Park (permit needed) is found on Hwy. 89 about 14 miles north of 80 at Little Truckee Summit. Groomed roads lead back in to hundreds of miles of backcountry riding. You can ride about 30 miles to Basset's station on Hwy. 49 for lunch and gas. You can climb Mt. Lola at 10,300 ft., cruise the trail system out by Weber Lake, ride the ridges at Independence Lake and much more. Prom Prosser Site you can go east or west of Hwy. 89 to open areas and play hills when there is good snow coverage. Riding levels: beginner, intermediate and advanced.

Eldorado National Forest and Tahoe National Forest

Winter is a beautiful time to explore the Lake Tahoe's National Forests. Miles of roads and trails offer excellent opportunities for winter enjoyment. With a minimum snow pack of 12 inches, motorized snow travel is permitted in most areas, barring all ground contact.
